Cells

Today we are beginning a unit on cells.


1. Watch the Cells video on Brainpop.
2. Watch the Cell Structures Video on BrainPop.
3. Respond as usual.

Be ready in Class (Wednesday, Dec 12) to  do the following:
3. Take notes on chapter 1.2 in your text book using the hand out as your guide. You may do this on paper or highlight the main ideas (as shown in class) in Kurzweil or Firefly. If you are missing the guide, make sure your notes cover the following:
   a) What are the names and functions of 6 cell organelles
   b) What is the difference between  plant and animal cells:
   c)What are the 3 points of cell theory?
   d) What is the difference between prokaryotic and eukariotic cells?

  1. Of course we are made of cells, every living thing is made of cells, animals to plants. Cytoplasm reminds me of the word ectoplasm... Weird how is that was the first thing that came to mind. I tried explaining to my sister that we are made of cells... She thinks we are all skin and bones. She will learn one day, until then, I eill show here these videos.

    1. Ah yes! Ecoplasm - the slime of Ghostbusters! The word part "cyto" means "cell" and plasm means "something formed or moulded" - it usually refers to liquidy matter. (Notice how close it is to plasma which is the watery part in your blood)

      Ecto means "outside - or external"

      You and your sister are both right; we are made of skin and bones (and muscles and organs) - but all of those tissues are made of cells!
