For November 6th

We have just finished learning all about our digestive system in class, but we haven't had much of a chance to talk about what we eat  and what is does to our bodies. Here is a little video that looks at obesity and what may or may not cause it. Watch it and share your thoughts using one of the blog response options.

  1. Eh... I've seen this video before. I think the dude has a point there, though, we are not Americans in the first place. But still, the people of the world are getting increasingly larger then we were 40 years ago. Most eveyone has access to fast foods, junk food from thier local corner store and sitting on thier butt all day long. Technology is also to blame, but I have no problem with technology. In fact, I love most anything that has to do with computers, but they are still a problem. I know people who play Xbox 360 or PS3 all day. They go to school, come home, play on thier console, eat dinner, play again untill like 2 in the morning, sleep, and repeat the process again. Yeah, playing games with other people in somewhat social. And somewhat unsocial people are social misfits, like myself. I don't get along wih many people, maybe people who do the same things as me. Wow, this is a really long comment and I am gettting of track... Still, he guy in this video has a point. The world is getting fatter, not much we can do about it Toodles!

    1. Do you really think that there is nothing we can do about it?

  2. I cant belive that by next year there will be 30% of the obese. This guy that is doing the video is talking about how now there are so many things about losing weight but the best way out there is to exercise and eat normal but not go oer healthy or over board with junkfood.

    1. I thought it was interesting that exercize and eating were not really emphasised - it seems like he was saying that there are many other biologial and epigenetic factors that also impact your weight.

    2. well we cant do much with obesity if it has to do with our parents before we were born ... buuut the sleep thing and the eating better is good. the guy in this video has a point of all the obese problems and diabetes due to eating not so healthy food. but i agree that eating non healthy food isnt always the problem, very interesting.

  3. That part about Fecal Transplants was pretty weird, do they actually do that? Take fecal matter (poo) from one person and put it into somone elses (ahem..) anus? No wonder it isn't very popular, but if it actually works.... It's a heck of a way to get good bacteria.... doesn't yogurt do the same thing?

Not the chicken nuggets! In America a salad is unheard of, most people that eat to much and become over weight don't realise it until its to late! America and Canada aren't really different in eating habit's, its just in America they deep fry everything they see! Also it doesn't help when we have over weight chickens and unheard of chemicals being put into all of our food, doing unimaginable things to our bodies. Even the government supports some of these actions. Fast food companies will buy these chemical injected animals, then sell it to the customers. The customers don't like their food but something keeps bringing them back for more. It's the chemicals inside this barbaric slob of fat! The cunsumers say to them selves I need to lose weight, and goes and buys more chemicals to make them lose weight (like drugs or medication.) When it really does nothing for you. Sure it worked for 1 or 2 people but that's because everyone's body is different. The government is rich because of fatness. Go to the gym or do daily exercise and eat a salad. One healthy choice is to eat salmon. It cleans your blood! Sure I may not buff or skinny but being pudgy isn't really bad, it lowers your health risks, like heart attacks. But with this knowledge we have today we can do better things instead of feecal transplants. What the hell is that! I bet even junk food would be a whole lot better, if they just tried to make something right. But it is not just all about our selves, look at our parents, my parents say I need to eat right to stay healthy, and my friend's mother say's I need to gain more or I'll get scurvey. Some parents don't even care what they're child is eating, like Monster or Red bull that are so bad for young people, it increases the chance of a heart attack. I think some parents should more aware and more strict of what's for din din. When I was little I would call veggies yukies. But now I'm pretty good with healthy foods. I do complain when all we eat is salads with every signal meal, everyday of my life!!! We should all try to be good. A thing that does not impress me is when someone is bragging that they stayed up till 5:00 in the morning, eating so much junk food, and 16 hours of x-box! No wounder they are over weight, have bad marks, and can't do exercise with falling over half dead! Now I know this comment (speech) won't change anything, but it's just always fun to write what you think about things. :P

    1. Actually, Fecal Transplants, or Fecal bacteriotherapy are not just for overweight people. They actually help with a lot of other digestive problems. Some people get very sick because they don't have the right kind or enough of the right kind of bacteria in their intestines. Buy putting some good bacteria into their intestines (which you can get from the poo of a heathy person) a sick person can get better. It may sound weird, but is it any stranger than a heart transplant or a blood transfusion?

Here is a great video that tells more about it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDcia_uqf3k

  6. I think the point of this video was that people all around are getting obese because they eat whatever they want and dnt watch how many calories the take in and out.

  7. Everyone blames the food product! saying that the reason there overweight is because Mcdonalds or fast food, it's their choice they ate the food, people know its bad for them but they still eat it. I eat Mcdinalds even though its bad for me, because its amazingly delicious!!!

  9. They all blame big food companies ilke burger king Mcdonalds kfc or taco bell but in reality its the consumers fault its there choice to eat it or not. They are rigt though alot of people are obese however they have nobody to blame but themselves.
